[TFT] Does Runaan’s Stack in Teamfight Tactics? (Patch 9.20)

The recent buff to Runaan’s Hurricane made more and more players test more interesting builds around this item. Initially in 9.14 it has been changed to apply on-hit effects and fire one additional hit that did 25% damage, and in Patch 9.15B its damage was buffed to 75%.

[TFT] Does Thornmail Stack in Teamfight Tactics? (Patch 9.20)

Even though Thornmail has been nerfed in TFT Patch 9.15 when its returned damage was changed from True Damage to Magic Damage, it is still a top tier item for some champions like Braum or Shyvana, in the current meta.

This raises up the question: does Thornmail stack in TFT? Can I put 2 Thornmails on Braum to double the reflected damage? Let’s see what math tells us, with in-game screenshots to back it up.

Does Thornmail Stack in Teamfight Tactics?

Yes, it does. Stacking 2 Thornmails will double the reflected damage (which is now Magic Damage, so the unit’s Magic Resist will reduce the reflected damage). Let’s check some in-game screenshots to back it up.

[TFT] Does Statikk Shiv Stack? (Updated for Patch 9.20)

(Note: Statikk Shiv has been changed in TFT Patch 9.16, so we updated the article accordingly. Now it damages 3 units for 100 Magic Damage)

Statikk Shiv became one of the most built items especially in the early game. While it does fall off a bit in the late game, where it’s damage is low compared to unit’s Health, early to mid game is still very strong.

[TFT] Does Morello Work on Garen? (Updated for Patch 9.20)

(Aug 14: This article has been update for TFT Patch 9.16, when Morello’s Burn damage has been increased to 10 seconds)

Morello has become a top tier item in the current meta and it will still be, even after the the small nerf it received in TFT Patch 9.15B.

While Morello is more popular on AP champs like Kennen, Karthus or Brand, one popular question is: does Morello work on Garen in TFT? This is what we’ll discuss in this article. We already talked a bit about this in the Morello Stacking article, but here we’ll get into more details.

[TFT] Does Morello Work on Garen?

Yes, it does work and in some team comps, it works really great. When he’s got his Mana bar filled up, he casts his Ability Judgement and starts spinning for 4 seconds, dealing Magic Damage to all adjacent enemies.

[TFT] Does Morello Work on Graves? (Updated for Patch 9.20)

I’ve seen many players asking on different forums if Morello works on Graves in TFT, so I decided to write this short article to clarify it.

[TFT] Does Morello Work on Graves?

No, it doesn’t. The reason is how Graves works. He is one of the few champions in TFT that don’t have mana and don’t have an Active Ability. Instead, he has a Passive Ability “Buckshot” which deals splash damage to enemies in front of him when auto-attacking.

[TFT] Does Luden’s Stack in Teamfight Tactics? (Patch 9.20)

(Aug 21 Update: Luden’s just got nerfed in TFT Patch 9.16B, its damage has been reduced from 200 to 180. We updated the item description to reflect this change, but the in-game screenshot and the math below use the old damage).

Luden’s Echo is a very strong item, especially early-game. The 180 splash damage when the wearer’s ability hits an enemy is insane at the beginning of the game, when most champions have under 1000 HP.

[TFT] Does Luden’s Stack?

Yes, Luden’s does stack in TFT since Patch 9.16.

Here’s a screenshot from one of my games where I stacked double Luden’s on Ahri level 2.

Double Luden's Stacked on a Level 2 Ahri
Double Luden’s Stacked on a Level 2 Ahri

As you can see, the splash damage was 333. Probably math isn’t needed here, obviously they stack, but just to confirm it.

I’ll use the same formula used for Summoner’s Rift, since it seems to apply in TFT as well for Armor and Magic Resist:

  • Damage Multiplier = 100/(100+MR)
  • Vayne had no MR items, so he had 20 MR
  • this makes our Damage Multiplier 0.83
  • 2 Luden’s should do 400 splash Magic Damage
  • 0.83 * 400 = 333

Best champs to build Luden’s Early Game

Since we talked about how strong stacked Luden’s are early game, let’s see some examples of champions that can really carry you easily through the early-to-mid game.

Luden’s on Lucian

Lucian is one of the best champs to put Luden’s on early game, because he has a low mana bar 35 and will use his Ability very often, which will proc the Luden’s damage. We talked a bit more about why Luden’s works on Lucian in this article.

Luden’s on Ahri

Ahri is probably just as good as Lucian to put Luden’s on. She does have a higher Mana bar, but since she’s a Sorcerer, she gains double mana from basic attacks, which means she’ll use her ability pretty often.

At level 2, her orb does 200 magic damage to each unit it passes through, and it does it both ways.

Imagine she hits with her ulti an enemy unit without MR items (so just the default 20 MR), this means she will do 666 damage from her Orb combined with double stacked Luden’s.

So if the ball hits a unit when its fired and also on its way back, that unit will take 400 magic damage minus the mitigated damage by the Magic Resist. Add to that the 200 splash Damage from Luden’s and you can literally one-shot level 1 units.

You can also put Statikk Shiv on her to get start with 40 Mana, so will use her ulti in just 2 hits, since she’s a Sorcerer and she gains double Mana per attack.

Luden’s on Varus

Varus is another decent option to put Luden’s on, but in order for him to use his Ability often, you might want to put a Spear of Shojin on him as well. Together, these 2 items will make Varus a top damage dealer that will carry you even through the mid-game, if you’re able to protect him from Blitz and Assassins.

TFT Patch 9.15B Notes

Riot team just released TFT Patch 9.15B which comes with minor changes, since they’re quite happy with where the meta is right now, so they want to see how the meta naturally changes over the course of two weeks with minimal input on their end.

In this article we’ll look at all Patch 9.15B Updates for TFT and see how they might influence the meta in the upcoming week.

[TFT] Red Buff Graves – Is it worth building in Patch 9.16?

In a separate article we already answered the question about Red Buff Stacking in TFT and we realized there’s an interesting “relationship” between Graves and Red Buff, so we decided to write this dedicated article and explain why Red Buff Graves is OP in TFT.

Graves’ Ability “Buckshot” in TFT

Graves is one of the few TFT Units that don’t have an Active Spell, instead he has a Passive Spell “Buckshot” which makes his attacks deal increased damage and hit all enemies in front of him.

[TFT] Does Red Buff Stack in Teamfight Tactics? (Patch 9.20)

(Aug 29: Since TFT Patch 9.17, the Burn Effect (Grievous Wounds) doesn’t fully prevent healing, instead it reduces it by 80%.

Aug 14: This article has been updated for TFT Patch 9.16, when Red Buff’s damage has been increased to 20%, and the duration of the Burn effect has also been increased to 10 seconds.)

Red Buff is fantastic in any auto-attack based team comps, like Rangers or Gundlingers. It works great versus team comps that rely heavily on healing, either it’s the 6-Nobles enemy or maybe Warmog’s Shyvana, or even versus Darius with Dragon’s Claw, Warmog and Thornmail.
