Cursed Blade rapidly gained popularity due to changes in the meta and now in Patch 9.15 it’s considered an OP item, most people actually complaining about it on Twitter or Reddit, saying it should be nerfed.
Recently I’ve seen some players wonder: Does Cursed Blade Stack or not? This is what we’ll talk about in this article.
Does Cursed Blade Stack in Teamfight Tactics?
Yes, Cursed Blade stacks in TFT. Two or more of them stacked on the same champion will shrink the enemy unit by two levels, when it procs.
So while this confirms they stack, it’s hard to guess how the % stacking works. It might be that in Saintvicious’ game he was really lucky that one hit shrunk the enemy by 2 levels, or maybe this is how it stacks by default and the percentage remains the same.
People make assumptions of how the percentages stack, but without an official answer of how this is calculated, it’s almost impossible to guess this, because it would take a huge number of games where a unit with 2 stacked Cursed Blades would shrink the enemies for 1 or 2 levels and then make a statistic, which still doesn’t confirm it’s how it’s calculated, but rather an estimation.
Anyway, assuming the percentage chance works as considered, these are the % chances for up to 3 stacked Cursed Blades on a single unit:
Having 1 Cursed Blade
- 20% chance to shrink by 1 level
- 80% chance to do nothing
This is pretty easy to understand, it’s the % numbers shown for the item.
Having 2 Cursed Blades
- 32% chance to shrink by 1 level
- 4% chance to shrink by 2 levels
- 64% chance to do nothing
We won’t get into further details of how this is calculated, it’s just math (who loves that anyway!?!)
Having 3 Cursed Blades
- 38.4% chance to shrink by 1 level
- 9.6% chance to shrink by 2 levels
- 0.8% to shrink by 3 levels
- 51.2% chance to do nothing
This is the same math formula, it’s just calculated one level deeper.
Is it worth stacking 2 or 3 Cursed Blades on a single unit?
Personally, I wouldn’t recommend this for two reasons.
First, you get diminishing returns from stacking both blades on the same unit rather than putting them on 2 separate champs.
Second, it’s better to have them on 2 different units in case one of them gets one-shot. It’s like the old saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket”. If you stacked 2 Cursed Blades on a carry and the enemy team has the Phantom buff and a Statikk Shiv, then your carry will almost be one-shot, making him totally useless. Same as if Blitz hooks them.
What units could you stack Cursed Blades on?
Assuming we didn’t convince you this is sub-optimal and you still want to try it, we recommend putting them on an auto-attack based carry, like Varus or Tristana. They are better than other options because they have the highest range in the game, 4 units. Or you can put them on any other AD Carry with Rapid Firecannon.
Again, this wouldn’t be our 1st recommendation, but it would work in a normal game where you want to test stuff. For ranked games, we always suggest choosing the optimal builds and stacking 2 Cursed Blades isn’t one of them. Do it at your own risk! 🙂
