(Aug 21 Update: Luden’s just got nerfed in TFT Patch 9.16B, its damage has been reduced from 200 to 180. We updated the item description to reflect this change, but the in-game screenshot and the math below use the old damage).
Luden’s Echo is a very strong item, especially early-game. The 180 splash damage when the wearer’s ability hits an enemy is insane at the beginning of the game, when most champions have under 1000 HP.
[TFT] Does Luden’s Stack?
Yes, Luden’s does stack in TFT since Patch 9.16.
Here’s a screenshot from one of my games where I stacked double Luden’s on Ahri level 2.
As you can see, the splash damage was 333. Probably math isn’t needed here, obviously they stack, but just to confirm it.
I’ll use the same formula used for Summoner’s Rift, since it seems to apply in TFT as well for Armor and Magic Resist:
- Damage Multiplier = 100/(100+MR)
- Vayne had no MR items, so he had 20 MR
- this makes our Damage Multiplier 0.83
- 2 Luden’s should do 400 splash Magic Damage
- 0.83 * 400 = 333
Best champs to build Luden’s Early Game
Since we talked about how strong stacked Luden’s are early game, let’s see some examples of champions that can really carry you easily through the early-to-mid game.
Luden’s on Lucian
Lucian is one of the best champs to put Luden’s on early game, because he has a low mana bar 35 and will use his Ability very often, which will proc the Luden’s damage. We talked a bit more about why Luden’s works on Lucian in this article.
Luden’s on Ahri
Ahri is probably just as good as Lucian to put Luden’s on. She does have a higher Mana bar, but since she’s a Sorcerer, she gains double mana from basic attacks, which means she’ll use her ability pretty often.
At level 2, her orb does 200 magic damage to each unit it passes through, and it does it both ways.
Imagine she hits with her ulti an enemy unit without MR items (so just the default 20 MR), this means she will do 666 damage from her Orb combined with double stacked Luden’s.
So if the ball hits a unit when its fired and also on its way back, that unit will take 400 magic damage minus the mitigated damage by the Magic Resist. Add to that the 200 splash Damage from Luden’s and you can literally one-shot level 1 units.
You can also put Statikk Shiv on her to get start with 40 Mana, so will use her ulti in just 2 hits, since she’s a Sorcerer and she gains double Mana per attack.
Luden’s on Varus
Varus is another decent option to put Luden’s on, but in order for him to use his Ability often, you might want to put a Spear of Shojin on him as well. Together, these 2 items will make Varus a top damage dealer that will carry you even through the mid-game, if you’re able to protect him from Blitz and Assassins.
