[TFT] Does Morello Work on Volibear? (Updated for Patch 9.20)

I’ve seen a lot of people wondering “Does Morello Work on Volibear?” so I decided to write this short article to clarify this.

[TFT] Does Morello Work on Volibear?

No, it doesn’t. Morello applies the Burn effect only on spells damage, while Volibear’s ability “Thunder Claws” is a modifier of his basic attacks, making them bounce between enemies. This does apply on-hit effects though, so Red Buff would work on Voli, instead of Morello.

And since we’re talking about Red Buff on Voliber, in the screenshot below you can see the Red Buff on Voli applying the Burn effect on Sejuani as well, even though he was auto-attacking Warwick.

[TFT] Put Red Buff on Volibear instead of Morello
This means that also any on-hit items like Cursed Blade, Hush or Sword Breaker would work on Voli’s ability. But don’t just stack on-hit items on him, because there are other great options as well. (*Hush has been reworked in TFT Patch 9.16. It no longer silences the units, now it has a 33% chance on hit to prevent the enemy champion from gaining mana (we’re calling it Mana Lock) for four seconds.)

Rapid Firecannon is usually the most important item from him. To that you can then add the Red Buff and a Hydra or a Bloodthirster, which heals 50% of all damage dealt by his ability, since it’s basically a modified auto-attack.

We’ll write a separate article with the best items for Volibear in current meta.
